Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko looks set to be headed to the Premier League after the Gunners expressed a strong interest in the Slovenian - but it appears Manchester United are set to win the race. The Red Devils are confident of landing the RB Leipzig striker after being embroiled in a tug-of-war with Newcastle United.
Reports suggest that the Magpies' improved second bid has been accepted by the Bundesliga club, but United's €75million (£65.3m) plus €10m (£8.7m) in add-ons falls below Leipzig's valuation of the 22-year-old. It has been claimed that talks will continue between both clubs over a move for Sesko, which could see him join United ahead of their season opener against Arsenal.
It could have been a different story for that curtain-raiser at Old Trafford, on August 17, if the Gunners completed their 12-month pursuit of the Slovenian.

However, after intense discussions, Arsenal were forced step away from negotiations after reportedly baulking at the demands from Leipzig and the personal terms to land the towering striker.
The German outfit were demanding around £69million for his services, while they managed to obtain Sporting CP hot-shot Viktor Gyokeres for £55m (€63m) guaranteed fee, plus £8.5m (€10m) in add-ons.
Newcastle increased their second proposal for Sesko to £69.7m as a fixed fee plus add-ons, but the 41-cap striker, ultimately, preferred a move to the Theatre of Dreams over St James' Park.
United, though are confident they will win the race, will need to match that figure or be close in the region of it, if they are to acquire a third big-money signing after Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
The prospective signing of Sesko to Old Trafford provides a fitting backdrop to an exciting curtain-raiser between two of England's biggest clubs, as well as the possibility of two big-money attacking arrivals facing off in their first competitive encounter in the Premier League.
"We're absolutely delighted to welcome Viktor Gyokeres to the club," said Arteta.
"The consistency he has shown in his performances and availability have been outstanding, his goal contributions speak for themselves.
"Viktor has so many qualities. He's a quick and powerful presence up front, with incredible goalscoring numbers at club and international levels.
"He brings a clinical edge with a high conversion rate of chances into goals, with intelligent movement in the box making him a constant threat.
"We're excited about what Viktor brings to our squad and we are looking forward to start working with him."
