Agartala (Tripura) [India], April 21: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated the 'Garia and Borsho Boron Utsav' 2025 on Monday.The two-day event is being held at the Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala.
The festival is being organised by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, with support from the Tribal Welfare Department, West Tripura Zilla Parishad, Agartala Municipal Corporation, and Pantiya Sporting Society.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha attended the event as the Chief Guest and Inaugurator. Distinguished guests, including Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, Minister of Cooperation and other departments, Shuklacharan Noatia.
"Just like Durga Puja in Bengalis, Garia Puja is a festival which is very important for our Tripuri community which speaks Kokoborok, Reang community. This is a form of Mahadev. Mahadev Ji comes to earth to bless us to live in peace and to have happiness and prosperity from all sides," Tripura CM told ANI.
Special guests were also present at the occasion are Deepak Majumder, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation; Debapriya Bardhan, Special Secretary of the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs; Megha Jain, Additional District Magistrate of West Tripura; and Subrata Chakraborty, Vice Chairman of the State Cultural Advisory Committee.
The program is being presided over by Biswajit Shil, Acting Chairman of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad.
The festival features the traditional Garia Puja along with vibrant cultural programs in the evening. Traditional food stalls have also been set up for visitors. Over the two days, indigenous artists will perform traditional dances and songs, including Garia, Gajan, Mamita, Lebang Boomani, Rabindra Sangeet, folk dances, and magic shows, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region.
