Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indore divisional commissioner Deepak Singh has launched a mobile classroom for children of labourers and slum residents by converting the ‘Dronacharya bus for wisdom’ an old AICTSL bus into a fully functional school.
The facility, inaugurated on Thursday, at the Smart City premises in Nehru Park, aims to provide safe, weather-proof learning space for children who are unable to attend regular schools.
The bus, refurbished by engineer Ajit from Dhar, is equipped with seating, desks and a blackboard. It was handed over to social worker and educator Madhuri Moyde, who has been teaching underprivileged children from labour colonies free of charge for several years.
During the launch, commissioner Singh interacted with the children in a “masti ki patshala” session, narrating inspirational stories of former president Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and explaining the significance of Independence Day. The inaugural ribbon was cut by a girl named Chhaya, symbolising the focus on children’s empowerment.
Freedom Fighters Long Gone, Their Single, Dependent Daughters Struggle To SurviveMoyde said the bus would be permanently stationed at Scheme No. 140, offering a protected environment for study in all seasons. She explained that the absence of a proper roof had previously forced children to study outdoors in harsh weather.
The initiative was made possible with the cooperation of Indore Municipal Corporation and AICTSL. Representatives including AICTSL’s Rohit and social welfare society’s head Madhuri Moyde attended the event, which began with Saraswati Vandana and patriotic songs performed by the children.
Moyde said she had long sought a mobile or fixed facility to provide both education and values to slum children and the converted bus now meets that need.
