Arsenal hit with Gabriel Magalhaes injury blow during Champions League clash

Arsenal suffered an injury scare against Olympiacos as Gabriel Magalhaes suffered a knock in the Champions League. The defender was replaced by Cristhian Mosqeura as Mikel Arteta took a precautionary move to replace the Brazil international, who was able to continue.

Gabriel was marched off the pitch by physios as Arteta took no risks given the depth at his disposal. The physical defender came out worse for wear after a collision with the opposition goalkeeper, Konstantinos Tzolakis, having appeared to pull up shortly before.

Treatment was required for the Arsenal star and as his head coach made the decision to replace a key player while the physios undertook their work on the field. The centre-half took his place in the dugout among his team-mates rather than heading down the tunnel for further treatment by Arsenal's medical staff.

Gabriel's issue also appeared to be nothing to worry about come full-time. The defender once again entered the pitch following the final whistle and looked to be moving okay.

Arteta revealed following the game that his charge first suffered an issue in the opening 45 minutes. The coach said: "He was struggling a bit with a kick in the first half and we took him off."

"He was a bit uncomfortable," he added. "He could carry on but we chose not to take a risk."

Gabriel Martinelli earlier gave Arsenal a 1-0 lead after some impressive play from Viktor Gyokeres. But Arsenal did come under pressure as the game wore on.

The visitors saw a goal ruled out for offside. Chiquinho found the net but Ayoub El Kaabi strayed beyond Arsenal's backline in the build-up.

Bukaya Saka, who came on late in the game, fired a shot through the legs of Olympiacos 'keeper Tzolakis after 92 minutes to seal a win for the home side.

Goalscorer Martinelli offered his assessment of Arsenal's win following the game. "This is Champions League," he said.

"They are a really good side with really good players. We could have scored more in the first half, we had some chances."

The Brazilian attacker was also asked to reflect on his team's depth. "It's good for the club," he added

"We want to have the best players around us. We have a really good group. We want to win every title and that's what we will try to do.

"We play for Arsenal and we want to win every game of the season and every trophy."
