Gogglebox star's wife supported by fans after emotional message

Gogglebox star Baasit Siddiqui’s wife, Mel, has posted a touching tribute to him on his birthday.

The TV star and sofa telly critic is part of one of the show’s longest-running families, having appeared on the Channel 4 programme since it began in 2013.

Baasit has joined his brothers, Raza and Umar,and father Sid in becoming household names, though they share little of their private lives.

Now, IT worker and business founder Baasit’s wife, the mother of his two children, has shared an emotional message on Instagram.

Mel wrote: “Happy birthday @baasit_siddiqui, Wishing you the most wonderful birthday, we all love you to the moon and back and are so proud of everything you do, Love you always xxx.’

She shared a snap of him wearing a ‘Best. Daddy. Ever’ t-shirt, as well as some adorable family snaps.

Followers rushed to share their well-wishes to Baasit, including fellow Gogglebox star Tristan Daine Plummer, who appears on Gogglebox with his brothers.

"Happy birthday poppet xxx all the way from Hilton," one wrote, as another said: "Have a fantastic day." A third echoed: "Happy birthday mate, hope you have a great day!"

The Siddiquis began appearing on Gogglebox when Baasit was approached by a friend who was working on the pilot episode.

Umar previously revealed to Radio Times: "We did a bit of an audition, where people came round with a camera and some flash cards – images of Boris Johnson, Simon Cowell... and they said, 'Right, just say the first thing that comes into your mind'.

“Whatever dynamic we had seemed to suit the show, because they asked us if we wanted to be part of it. And they've kept on asking us."

Though they’ve gained fame across the nation, Sid insisted his life hasn’t changed “vastly”, with the retired engineer remarking: "As far as our lifestyles are concerned, it's still the same way. We were a close-knit family and that we remain... If anything, we've probably consolidated that because of the show."

Baasit has been married to his wife, Mel, since 2014, and they share children Amelia and Theodore.

The couple spoke about how proud they were of their children in a “Back to School” post earlier this month.

They wrote: “After a great summer of fun & adventures it’s back to school for these two…first day of secondary (year 7) for Amelia & year 1 for Theodore.

“We are so proud of both of you. Have the best day, you will smash it! Love you both xxx.”

“Beautiful children..Love your family on Gogglebox,” one fan wrote.

Another said, “Oh my, how they have grown.”

Gogglebox airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
