Great British Bake Off viewers warn of Ofcom complaints just minutes into series

Send Push

Great British Bake Off fans were left baffled over the start of the brand new series as they warned Ofcom could be called. The hit Channel 4 baking show has returned for its 2025 installment as a fresh set of bakers head into the iconic tent to see if they have got what it takes.

Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith are also back to put the 12 stars through their paces. They clearly are not giving the contestants an easy ride this year as Cake Week certainly brings its challenges.

However, the series kicked off in a very unusual way as it started with a Jurassic Park themed sketch. Prue rocked a white beard, while she drove a truck with hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding in the pack.

A huge dinosaur approached them, with dazzling blue eyes and wearing blue trousers. Yet, disaster struck as the dinosaur ate Noel. Paul then turned up in a much smaller dinosaur costume asking the cast when they can start their sketch.

Viewers certainly had plenty to say on the opener as one said: "Why all the fancy intro. Just get on with the baking!." Another added: "What a cringe opening sketch."

Someone else commented: "What’s happened to #GBBO? Why are they trying to be funny?? And I do mean trying." A fourth wrote: "Jesus, #GBBO is getting cringier every time."

A fan declared: "What a nonsense ridden start. Get on with the baking!" "Cue the ofcom complaints of Noel being eaten before the watershed," said another.

Someone else quipped: "No need for all that rubbish at the beginning. Waste of time." However, others enjoyed the sketch as one said: "Jurassic Park and #GBBO, the cross over we never knew we needed!"

Another added: "That Intro made me laugh." Someone else commented: "Loved the opening!" Host Alison Hammond has already asked viewers to be supportive of the bakers, as it can be difficult when bakes go wrong.

Speaking ahead of the first episode, she issued a plea to viewers as she said: "It's a magical experience they'll never forget. What you don't see at home are all the hours of hard work they put in behind-the-scenes."

"So when something goes wrong in the tent, it can really hit hard. They're all real people with real feelings who love baking and they're just trying their best. So please, remember - it might look easy from the sofa at home but in the tent, it's a whole other story."

Prue, 85, replaced original judge Mary Berry in 2017 when the show moved over from the BBC, while Alison, 50, has only been on board since March 2023, when she began filming the 14th series.

Revealing what fans can expect, Alison teased: "You’ve got six men and six women from all over Britain. They’re all really exciting bakers. It’s not just about the baking for them. They’ve got families and really good jobs as well."

While Prue added: "This year we had quite a lot of designers and engineers, and it showed in their baking. They were so much better at construction."

"They just take it so seriously. It’s like a science to them, because that’s how they are within their work," Alison continued. People are going to be blown away.

"There’s a few failures as well, as to be expected. It’s going to be so much fun. Paul’s on form, Prue’s on form, Noel is just so funny. It’s classic Bake Off. We say it every year but it’s a wonderful series."
