Harry Maguire fired a dig at Cristian Romero on the ground during the final as he told the defender: "You're the captain, come on!"
The Argentine was grounded after clashing with 's Rasmus Hojlund. Romero remained on the ground, holding his hands over his face, and the United centre-half wandered over and appeared to mock the World Cup winner as he remained on the turf.
Romero did eventually get back to his feet, but clearly Maguire felt that the Tottenham man was making more of the incident than was necessary.
Even in the early minutes of the second-half the two defenders were exchanging verbals, albeit Romero was the man in the driving seat with Tottenham leading the final at the San Mames, owing to Brennan Johnson's goal just before half-time.
The clash is do-or-die for both the sides, who have been poor domestically, but can claim a trophy and ensure passage into next season's with victory on Wednesday night.

Maguire has been crucial in getting United to the final itself, scoring a dramatic winner in the last eight. The Red Devils scored three times in the final minutes to complete an incredible comeback over the French side.
Despite there being a trophy and huge sums on offer in the Europa League final Maguire insists victory would not change the narrative of their season as he confessed they have been well below the standards they demand of themselves.
He said previously: "It wouldn't save the season because I think it's been disappointing. There's been too many games that we've lost, far too inconsistent. It's been a difficult season.
"It's been a disappointing season but of course football is about memories, it's about creating memories, it's about winning trophies and we have a great opportunity to win a trophy. For our fans, it's what they deserve, so that's the most important thing."
