Newsboy's horseracing tips for Friday's six meetings, including Thirsk Nap

ANCIENT MYTH is fancied to prove the’s the real thing with a red-letter day in the JW4X4 Northallerton Handicap (4.35) at Thirsk on Friday.

The David O’Meara-trained son of Camelot has yet to hit the target in eight attempts, of which three were in novice and maiden company when in the care of Karl Burke in the first half of 2024.

But the balance of his form this mile-and-a-half-trip this season makes Ancient Myth of strong interest as he drops to a 0-70 handicaps – he carries top weight as a result – this afternoon.

Three starts ago, my selection stayed on well into third behind Something at Ripon at the end of May, and again took the bronze medal home from Beverley the following month.

Mark Winn’s mount didn’t reproduce that form when last of five over an additional furlong at Hamilton last time out, but it’s too early to be writing Ancient Myth off.

The handicapper has done his bit by dropping the four-year-old down to a career-low mark of 70 and the form of the O’Meara stable, currently knocking in winners at a 20 per cent strike-rate, is another plus.

At Sandown, BULLETIN is another who looks up to giving his rivals weight and a beating in the Close Brothers Property Finance Handicap (7.28).
