"Looking forward, I'm sure he'll be champing at the bit if he keeps doing well to maybe come back to the club for a second spell as manager."

Sheringham was critical of Amorim despite guiding United to a semi-final with a dramatic 5-4 win over Lyon, saying he hasn't done enough so far to show he is the right man for the job.

"I know it sounds dinosaurish, but why is there all this playing out from the back? In areas where you are only going to increase pressure on yourself, that’s what I cannot understand."
