TikTok user Katie Leonard revealed a simple trick to enhance flavour, and it's a doddle to pull off. She takes a humble tin of tomato soup and adds a few extras to boost its taste.
The content creator spends her time transforming tinned food from the pantry into something "more delicious." Her top tips are a godsend for those who want to keep things easy in the kitchen.
In the video, Katie says: "Today we are focusing on a tin of tomato soup. Tomato soup is already a classic. It's warm, rich and comforting.
"But, for tins made tasty, it's all about adding a little twist. A splash of cream, a herby kick or a cheesy topping can take it to the next level.
"Heat the soup in a pan, and stir in the vodka, and let it cook for two minutes. Add your cream and oregano and mix well to combine. Then stir in your Parmesan."
According to Katie, a dash of alcohol really helps to elevate the soup to another level, whilst the cream works to boost its velvety texture. Herbs are also brilliant for an additional burst of flavour.
For each tin of soup, Katie uses a tablespoon of vodka and three tablespoons of double cream. She adds half a teaspoon of oregano, and scatters the cheese to her preference.
Why vodka boosts tomato soupWhat you may not realise is that vodka amplifies the taste of tomatoes. This is because it works to extract and intensify their natural sweetness.
Not to mention, the touch of alcohol adds a delicate kick of its own. This really helps in crafting the ideal balance for the sweet sauce.
This is why the spirit is a favoured addition to tomato-based meals. If you're seeking an alcohol-free version, you could simply omit it though.
Including chopped fresh herbs, such as basil or parsley at the conclusion of cooking, can also help to boost the tomato taste. Your store cupboard may be able to assist you too.
Items like cracked black pepper, Italian seasoning or oregano will make a significant difference to your soup. Mixing your preferred herb in whilst the soup is still bubbling away is a smart approach.
