A dog expert has revealed five breeds that are well suited to living in a flat, including three that love to "snooze the day away". Will Atherton is canine behaviourist who founded and runs a training centre for unruly pups.

He's also built a massive presence on social media, including 1.13million subscribers on YouTube and more than 972k on TikTok. Would-be dog owners have to consider various factors when they're thinking of inviting a dog into the family, including whether they have the finances to support their diet and medical costs, or have enough time to give them the attention they need.

Another important consideration is the amount of space you have at your home, as some larger breeds need plenty of space to run around in.

In a clip on TikTok, Will highlighted a handful of dog types that will be happy living in a flat due to their size and/or behavioural traits.

He introduced the list alongside a "super high-energy labradoodle" at his centre, which he warns is "definitely not the kind of breed that you should have if you live in small house or apartment".

For smaller dwellings, prospective owners should be looking for pooches that are "naturally low energy" that don't need too much exercise.

It's also important that they're "naturally happy to be on their own, because a lot of people that live in apartments have busy lifestyles where they're out working and socialising a lot".

Dogs suited for these environments also need to not take up too much space, he added.

Will says the breeds that "I think fit this perfectly are the English Bulldog, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, or many of the sight hound breeds, like Greyhounds, Italian Greyhounds, or Whippets make superb choices, and contrary to popular belief, are actually coach potatoes that love just snoozing the day away".
