Fans of Coronation Street have been left devastated as the ITV soap delivered a double blow of "departure announcements". During Friday's instalment, Aadi Alahan, whose exit from the programme has already been confirmed, revealed his departure plans to his on-screen sister Asha, leaving her utterly distraught.
Earlier this year, bosses announced that Aadi, portrayed by Zennon Ditchett for ten years before Adam Hussain assumed the role in 2019, would be bidding farewell to the cobbles - and his departure appears to be happening very soon. At the episode's opening, Aadi revealed to Dev and Asha that officers had issued him with a caution following Lauren's report after his admission regarding his involvement in her LSD-fuelled hallucinations. He told his relative: "You were right, Dad, about me leaving this place, and starting all over again in India. I'm gonna do it, and I'm gonna look at flights today. Might as well get a move on. Especially now there's not much around here for me anymore."
A heartbroken Asha then offered comfort to her sibling, saying: "That's not true. You've got family, you've got friends. We'll miss you.
"Hope you're happy now," a crushed Asha confronted her father, Dev, who had instructed Aadi that relocating to India was necessary after the recent drama. In the latest episode, Asha was left distraught on the phone with Dev, who called to ask about a suitcase for packing up Aadi's belongings.
Meanwhile, it was judgment day for Lou as she faced sentencing for her assault on Gary Windass earlier this year. The attack occurred after he refused to pay her blackmail money and threatened to involve the police.
It was later disclosed that she had been sentenced to four years in prison, leaving her children Brody, Joanie and Shanice heartbroken with the confirmation that their mum wouldn't be returning home, having exited the soap.
Their father, Mick, was also imprisoned for the murder of PC Craig Tinker in harrowing scenes. As Sally and Tim relayed the news to the children, psychologists paid a visit to Joanie. They then informed Sally and Tim that it wasn't in the sisters' best interests to separate them.
However, as they were departing, Shanice rushed into the living room in tears with a bloody knee, declaring that Joanie had thrown something at her.
It was subsequently revealed that Joanie would need to be placed with another family, leaving Shanice devastated and insisting she didn't want her sister to leave. But will she reunite with her sister?
This follows an incident earlier this month when Sally was shocked to discover bruises on Shanice's arm, leading to the pair contacting social services. Lou's final scenes were broadcast last month, following the announcement earlier this year that Lou and Mick would be departing from the cobbles after joining in February.
