One of ITV's most popular game shows, The 1% Club, follows 100 contestants who are slowly eliminated as they attempt to make it to the end and successfully answer a question that only one per cent of the population can guess correctly. Many viewers will be familiar with its format, but one brain-busting puzzle can easily wipe out dozens of contestants within seconds. During one of the latest episodes fronted by comedian Lee Mack, contestants struggled with a difficult question involving words and numbers. Those who make it to the final question are in with a chance of winning a huge cash prize.
One question that eliminated 23 players in a huge booting was: "Including the word 'and', what is the only number out of the numbers below that uses every vowel exactly once when spelt out?"
Players were then given a multiple-choice answer: 107, 206, or 305. As contestants had 30 seconds to lock in their answer, Lee joked: "Take as long as you need... as long as the time you need is 30 seconds."
After the correct answer was revealed to be 206, 45 per cent of the players in the room crashed out and were unable to continue for the rest of the game. During the next question, 15 per cent of players were knocked out.
With a loyal viewership of four to five million, The 1% Club is a popular UK game show that stands out for its unique questions based on "logic and common sense."
In similar news, a former player has revealed some exclusive gossip about the show and Contestant Heidi Phillips appeared on the show in January this year after applying last summer. The 49-year-old used her pass at the 35 per cent question before being eliminated, says she got through the audition round due to the clever answers she gave producers.
Speaking on behalf of , Heidi said, "I saw a post on Facebook, filled out the form, and submitted a video audition, telling them a little about myself. That was in June last year. They then asked me to compete in a mock 1% style quiz on Zoom soon after and emailed me to say I had made it through."
She added, "I tried to showcase my personality, and I've worked as an entertainer before, so I'm good in front of people. I made silly jokes that if I won the prize, I'd spend it on opening a trifle sandwich shop. That would be my advice to anyone trying to get on the show. Give a really wild answer."
The 1% Club is available on Saturdays on ITV1 and ITVX.
