US president Donald Trump lost it with a reporter live on BBC Breakfast in another bombshell moment, shouting at her: "Do you understand?!" Various members of the press, including BBC journalists, were gathered on Air Force One with Trump as Israeli hostages are being released from Gaza and the president answered a frenzy of questions. But one reporter appeared to strike a chord.
Trump yelled at her: "The war is over, okay? Do you understand that?" and it was only when a man asked: "Are you confident that the ceasefire is going to hold?" that he appeared to calm down and answer the question.
He replied: "I think so. I think it's gonna hold. I think people are... there's a lot of reasons why it's gonna hold, but I think people are tired of it. It's been centuries, okay, not just recent. It's been centuries. I think people are tired of it, yeah. The ceasefire is gonna hold."
BBC Breakfast viewers, however, are doubtful of Trump's claims, and took to social media to share their response. One said: "This is just a land grab by Israel. The war didn't start on October 7th and isn't over now."
Another agreed: "Sadly I wish it were true. This isn't over is it."
Trump has flown to Israel and is set to attend a summit with other world leaders, where he and Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will finalise an agreement aimed at ending the war.
48 Israeli hostages are set to be released, 20 of whom are believed to still be alive. In exchange, Israel is set to release 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences, along with 1,722 detainees arrested after the October 7 attacks.
