A minuscule converted shed on the edge of a coastal British town has appeared on Rightmove for £1,100 per month. Marketed as a "fully furnished studio flat", the dwelling in Portishead consists of essentially one room and a bathroom.
A compact kitchenette has been crammed alongside the bed, with a sofa positioned at its foot facing a wall-mounted television. Fittingly dubbed 'The Snug', the property spans merely 16 square metres, equivalent to 172 square feet.
The typical size of a purpose-built flat across the UK stands at 58 square metres, based on a 2019 government survey released in 2019. However, this rental property sits at almost a quarter of that.
The rental cost of this property sits only marginally beneath nearby Bristol's average, despite its microscopic dimensions and position roughly two miles from Portishead's centre.
During June, the mean monthly rent for a one-bedroom dwelling in Bristol reached £1,138, figures from the Office for National Statistics reveal.
Bristol Live reports a "further benefit" of the accommodation lies in utilities being covered, estate agents Hopewell noted on their Rightmove advertisement.
"Hopewell are pleased to offer this furnished studio apartment situated in the popular Portishead area," the listing stated.
It continued: "The property comprises of open plan living space, kitchenette with fridge, oven and electric hob and shower room.
"Further benefits include electric heating and rent inclusive of all bills."
Adding to the peculiar nature of the listing is its owner, Lamorna Watts, a Bristol-born actress known for her roles in the iconic late 90s/early 00s football drama Dream Team and Hollyoaks: Let Loose, a spin-off of the long-standing Channel 4 soap.
In April 2020, North Somerset Council granted planning permission for Ms Watts to convert the former garage into a liveable space. A social media post from Ms Watts in 2021 confirmed she had completed the project.
The property has previously been available for short and medium-term lets. Ms Watts was approached for comment.
The flat/shed will be available to rent from 3 September, with council tax and bills included.
