The IPL team Punjab Kings is currently enjoying their best IPL performance in over a decade as with a place in the 2025 playoffs already secured but there is turmoil brewing behind the scenes.
Team co-owner and Bollywood actor Preity Zinta has taken legal action against her fellow directors at KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, Mohit Burman and Ness Wadia, filing a case in a Chandigarh court that questions the legitimacy of a recent corporate decision.
Preity Zinta has accused her co-directors of sidestepping legal and procedural norms while organising an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) last month. She claims the meeting violated stipulations of the Companies Act of 2013 and associated secretarial standards. Despite raising her objections via email on April 10, Preity Zinta alleges that her concerns were overlooked and the meeting proceeded with Ness Wadia’s backing of Mohit Burman.
One of Preity Zinta’s key grievances centers around the appointment of Muneesh Khanna as a director during this contentious meeting. Alongside another director, businessman Karan Paul, she opposed this appointment. Nevertheless, both she and Karan Paul were present at the EGM. In her court filing, Preity Zinta has asked for the meeting to be declared invalid, requested that Muneesh Khanna be barred from functioning as a director and sought to block the implementation of any resolutions passed during that session.
Additionally, Preity Zinta wants the court to ensure that no further board or general meetings occur without the participation of both her and Paul and without Muneesh Khanna’s involvement. Despite these legal entanglements, Preity Zinta has remained visibly supportive of her team, often seen cheering from the stands as the Kings chase their dream IPL campaign.
Led by Shreyas Iyer, Punjab Kings currently hold the third position on the points table with 17 points from 12 matches. Aiming for a top-two finish, they are set to face Delhi Capitals in Jaipur on May 24 and conclude their league stage against Mumbai Indians the following Monday.
While the team’s performance on the field has finally begun to reflect the potential it has long promised, boardroom battles threaten to distract from what could be a landmark season for the Kings.
