Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma’s marriage once captivated fans, blending cricket and dance into a popular social media narrative. They married in December 2020 and for a while, their joyful videos and pictures gave the impression of a perfect bond. However, behind the scenes, things began to fall apart. In late 2023, the couple announced their separation, which quickly turned into a public spectacle.
Rumours swirled, fingers were pointed and online speculation was rampant. While the exact reasons for the split remained private, many unfairly blamed Yuzvendra Chahal and the hate he received took a toll on him. Eventually, the couple finalised their divorce, ending a marriage that had once seemed filled with promise.
Opening up for the first time since his divorce, Yuzvendra Chahal recently revealed how deeply the experience affected his mental health. In a candid interview, the Indian leg-spinner said he was wrongly branded as a “cheater” despite having been loyal always. He expressed frustration at how quickly people judged him without knowing the full story, explaining that being falsely accused by the public was especially painful.
Chahal also criticised the online trolling that followed him around, noting that he was constantly targeted just for being seen with others, including RJ Mahvash. He said that even clarifying his position made things worse, as trolls would amplify the negativity for attention.
Yuzvendra Chahal shared that he endured one of the darkest periods of his life after the divorce, suffering from depression for nearly five months. He experienced anxiety attacks and admitted to having su*cidal thoughts during that time. Although he appeared calm and composed to the outside world, internally he was struggling to cope. He paused his cricketing commitments to focus on his mental health and described how, despite having all the material luxuries one could ask for, he felt a deep sense of emptiness. That emptiness, he said, led him to question the value of life itself.
In those moments, it was his close friends, especially Pratik Pawar and RJ Mahvash, who stood by him. He deliberately kept his pain from his family, not wanting to burden them, and instead leaned on the support of those closest to him. He emphasised that he never shared these experiences to seek sympathy but because they were a reality of what he went through.
Yuzvendra Chahal says he knows his truth and sees no reason to justify himself to those who never understood what really happened.
We wish Chahal all the best for his future endeavors!
