Masala Games announced today that " Detective Dotson : The Movie," an animated companion film to their upcoming cozy mystery game , will release simultaneously with the game on April 24, 2025. The movie will be released in Hindi with English subtitles.
The film features voice talent who previously worked on Hindi versions of major Hollywood blockbusters, including "Avengers: Endgame," "Deadpool & Wolverine," and the " Harry Potter " film series. Renowned voice actor Sanket Mhatre , known for dubbing Deadpool and Hawkeye in Hindi, is among the cast.
Created in Unreal Engine 5 , the movie follows Detective Dotson, a grieving amateur detective embroiled in a conspiracy involving corporate corruption and a potential attack during a cricket match. The film maintains the game's distinctive 2D-meets-3D visual style depicting modern-day India and includes an original soundtrack created in collaboration with Nikhil Rao of Indian Ocean.
"When we showed off the movie earlier this year, feedback indicated the English dub lacked the charm moviegoers expect. This forced us to rethink our approach," said Shalin Shodhan, Founder and CEO of Masala Games and former EA and Pixar artist.
The game, which continues the story after the movie's events, will be available on Steam and Windows Store for Rs. 500 in India (approximately $20 internationally), with a 10% launch discount. All game purchasers will receive access to the movie.
To celebrate the launch, Masala Games has partnered with content creators LazyAssassin, ThePJOfficial, and Hitesh KS, who will host watch parties with bespoke versions of the Hindi dub.
The movie premiere will be available on Masala Games' website (www.dotson.in) from 6pm IST on April 24, 2025, in both Hindi and English versions.
