Elon Musk has made a request to scientists after they successfully resurrected the extinct dire wolf, a species that vanished roughly 12,500 years ago, using genetic engineering . Colossal Biosciences, a Texas-based company, announced the birth of two male pups, Romulus and Remus, born on October 1, 2024, and a female pup born on January 30, 2025. The feat prompted two separate posts from the Tesla CEO.
In one of the posts, he shared the photo of Time magazine and a photo of Dire Wolves on an Iron Throne popularised by the “ Game of Thrones ” series. Notably, ‘the dire wolf’ was itself popularised by the "Game of Thrones" series.
These six-month-old pups, already substantial in size, weighing over 36 kg and measuring nearly four feet, were created using ancient DNA, cloning, and gene editing, with the gray wolf as the closest living relative.

A mammoth is any member of the extinct genus Mammuthus, belonging to the elephant family. These massive herbivores roamed various parts of the world, including Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America, from the late Miocene epoch (around 6.2 million years ago) into the Holocene epoch, with the last known populations dying out about 4,000 years ago.
Most mammoth species were about the size of modern elephants, but some, like the North American imperial mammoth, were significantly larger, reaching shoulder heights of up to 4 meters (14 feet). Dwarf mammoth species also existed, some as small as 1 meter (3.3 feet) tall.
The defining features of mammoths were their typically large and spirally curved tusks. Many later mammoth species, most famously the woolly mammoth , developed a thick coat of fur to survive in cold environments. They are featured in movies like the animated “Ice Age” franchise and 10,000 BC.
Recently, researchers performed a necropsy on a 130,000-year-old baby mammoth preserved in the Siberian permafrost. During the necropsy, researchers said, the mammoth smelled like a “mixture of fermented earth and flesh.”
