Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis predicts 'single drug' that may be END of all diseases

Send Push
Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis has said that artificial intelligence (AI) can help eradicate all diseases within the next 10 years. In a conversation with CBS News’ Scott Pelly, Hassabis said “It takes ten years and billions of dollars to design just one drug. We can maybe reduce that down from years to maybe months or maybe even weeks. Which sounds incredible today but that's also what people used to think about protein structures.”

Demis Hassabis was awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry along with Google DeepMind Director Dr. John Jumper for their work developing AlphaFold. Hassabis currently heads DeepMind, an AI research laboratory owned by Google's parent Alphabet Inc.

In the viral clip shared by Instagram page artificialintelligencenews.in, Hassabis emphasized that it would revolutionise human health. He stated: “I think one day, maybe we can cure all disease with the help of AI. Maybe within the next decade. I don't see why not.”

Perplexity AI CEO reacts

Commenting on Hassabis’ video on X, Perplexity AI CEO Aravind Srinivas wrote “Demis is a genius and he should be given all resources in the world to make this happen.”

Google DeepMind CEO makes it to Time 100 list

Hassabis was recently named in the 2025 Time100 list for his pioneering AI research, notably in deep reinforcement learning and AlphaFold’s protein structure prediction breakthroughs. He also featured on the Time Magazine cover. Taking to X, Hassabis expressed his gratitude, saying “Honoured to be on the #TIME100 list and cover - and congratulations to all the other people featured. Thank you to the brilliant Jennifer Doudna for the lovely writeup.”

To this, CEO Sundar Pichai replied saying “Congrats!”.
