NEW DELHI: In the early hours of Wednesday, the Pakistan Army opened fire indiscriminately along the Line of Control and the International Border opposite Jammu and Kashmir , using artillery shelling from multiple posts.
The unprovoked attack claimed the lives of three civilians, according to the Indian Army , which said it is responding in a proportionate manner.

"During the night of 06-07 May 2025, the Pakistan Army resorted to arbitrary firing, including artillery shelling from posts across the Line of Control and IB opposite J&K. Three innocent civilians lost their lives in indiscriminate firing/shelling. Indian Army are responding in a proportionate manner," the Army said in an official statement.
"Indian Army responded very effectively to the ceasefire violations, where artillery guns were used by the Pakistan Army. Pakistan Army has suffered casualties in the strong Indian retaliation," defence sources added later.
The firing came shortly after India launched ' Operation Sindoor ', a major counter-terror operation targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The operation is a strong response to the April 22 terror attack in J&K's Pahalgam, where 26 civilians were killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists.
