NEW DELHI: In response to heightened India-Pakistan tensions , the ministry of home affairs has ordered nationwide mock drills for May 7 to assess emergency preparedness . Security measures have been enhanced around Connaught Place in the national capital.
Various states are preparing to evaluate their emergency response capabilities through simulated scenarios.
The Delhi chief minister confirmed the capital's preparedness, saying, "Delhi is fully prepared for it. The people of Delhi and the government are with the country, and we are following everything directed by the central government."
Lucknow conducted an air raid siren test at Police Lines, with local authorities coordinating for tomorrow's exercises.

In Jammu and Kashmir, educational institutions are conducting emergency response training. A teacher was quoted as explaining, "We inform the students how to save themselves in any adverse situation. We train them on how to lead themselves to a protected area."
These activities follow the home ministry's instructions for civil defence drills across states and union territories on May 7.
Civil defence authorities conducted meetings to discuss citizen protection during potential air attacks, providing guidelines and protective measures.
Staff received training on managing public safety during emergencies and minimising potential damage during sudden attacks.
Instructions regarding crowd management during disasters were also provided.

Government sources indicate the home ministry has instructed states to conduct May 7 drills, including air raid siren tests and civilian training for self-protection during hostile situations.
The preparations include blackout procedures, vital installation camouflage and evacuation plan updates.
The increased alertness follows the Pahalgam terror attack , which resulted in 26 casualties, predominantly tourists. The government has promised strict action against the perpetrators.
