LUCKNOW: A school van driver in Lucknow was arrested on Saturday on charges of raping a four-year-old girl. He has been booked under SC/ST Act and Pocso Act . Police investigation revealed the survivor's mother approached the school manager on July 17 with her complaint, but no action was taken. She then filed an FIR the same evening.
The mother alleged that the school manager had arranged the van that transported her child to and from the school. DCP Shashank Singh said the school manager's role is under investigation. ACP Anindya Vikram Singh said the girl's medical examination was done and her statement was recorded by a magistrate.
The child returned home distressed on July 14, complaining of pain in her private parts. A doctor's visit revealed injuries. On probing, she disclosed the inappropriate actions of the driver during morning commute to the school. The mother immediately went to the school to register a complaint. However, the school allegedly took no action.
When the woman confronted the van driver, he allegedly threatened to harm the child if the family pursued the matter. Police suspect that the accused might have targeted other young children, too, in the past. "Investigations are on, and a team is gathering information from other students who availed the van service," said an officer privy to the investigation.
