NEW DELHI: The security personnel on Saturday retrieved parts of a missile in Haryana's Sirsa, which was reportedly fired by the Pakistani armed forces. Earlier, debris from a drone was also recovered following a blast in Kanganiwal village in rural Jalandhar, Punjab.
India launched retaliatory strikes on Saturday, targeting at least four Pakistani air bases in response to sustained provocations and escalations from across the border over the past two days, news agency ANI reported, citing defence sources.
In the early hours of Saturday, multiple explosions were reported at several locations in Pakistan, indicating possible punitive action by Indian forces.
Pakistan claimed that three of its air bases, Nur Khan air base in Rawalpindi near Islamabad, Murid air base in Chakwal, and Rafiqui air base in Jhang district of eastern Punjab, were among those targeted. Defence sources also said the Indian Army destroyed several Pakistani military posts and terrorist launch pads, from where tube-launched drones had been deployed.
In response to the heightened threat, surface-to-air missile systems were activated in Srinagar, and intense engagements were reported along the Line of Control (LoC). The Indian strikes come amid ongoing Pakistani attacks on Indian cities and strategic assets.
On Friday, Pakistan used armed drones to target 26 locations stretching from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat. According to defence officials, attempts to hit vital infrastructure, including airports and air bases, were successfully thwarted for a second consecutive night.
A day earlier, on Thursday night, Indian forces had already intercepted and neutralised Pakistani efforts to strike military sites in 15 cities across northern and western India using drones and missiles.
