In what could mark a major diplomatic breakthrough, US President Donald Trump announced Monday (local time) he will arrange face-to-face talks between the Russian and Ukrainian presidents to help end the war in Ukraine.
“At the conclusion of the meetings, I called President Putin ,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, referring to his own White House discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and seven other European leaders.
"I began the arrangements for a meeting, at a location to be determined, between President Putin and President Zelenskyy," he said.
The US leader added that the Putin-Zelenskyy talks would be followed by a trilateral summit involving the trio.
Vice president JD Vance, secretary of state Marco Rubio, and special envoy Steve Witkoff are coordinating with Moscow and Kyiv in this regard, he added.
