US President Donald Trump on Wednesday told Elon Musk that he is welcome to remain in the administration for as long as he wishes, reports news agency Reuters.

Speaking during a Cabinet meeting open to the press, Trump added that Musk , given that he is the CEO of Tesla, would eventually want to return to focusing on cars.

Musk's transition away from White House role, to refocus on Tesla

The world’s richest man and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is beginning to step back from regular duties at the White House, according to a report by the New York Post. While Musk is no longer working daily from the White House, he remains involved with DOGE remotely as he transitions back to Tesla. The White House confirmed earlier this month that the plan was always for Musk to return to his Tesla duties after completing “his incredible work at DOGE.” Speaking to Fox News, Musk said, “I think we will have accomplished most of the work required to reduce the deficit by a trillion dollars within that timeframe.”

White House chief of staff Susie Wiles told the Post that Musk’s shift to remote work “really doesn’t matter much” and that she still communicates with him regularly. “Instead of meeting with him in person, I’m talking to him on the phone, but it’s the same net effect. He hasn’t been here physically, but it really doesn’t matter much,” she said. Wiles confirmed that DOGE staff remain in place at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. “He’s not out of it altogether... He’ll be stepping back a little, but he’s certainly not abandoning it,” she added.
