As Donald Trump cuts medicine prices, matching it with other countries, he gave a little anecdote about a friend who told him about the huge price difference of medicines in the UK and the US. Trump said the friend is a brilliant businessman, highly neurotic and seriously overweight. The internet was set abuzz on who he was talking about, as he is known for investing such stories. Many thought it was Elon Musk, as nobody believed the details of his story, and then many social media users deciphered that Trump was probably talking about himself and the Ozempic price.
“I'm (Trump's friend) in London, and I just paid for this damn fat drug I take. I (Trump) said, it's not working. He said, I just paid $88 and in New York I paid $1,300. What the hell is going on? He said. So I checked, and it's the same box made in the same plant by the same company. It's the identical pill that I buy in New York, and here I'm paying $88 in London, in New York, I'm paying $1,300,” Trump told the story.
Trump said he later confronted a pharmaceutical ompany representative about the discrepancy and complained that the companies had been “justifying this crap for years” based on research and development costs for new medications.
“Well ... other countries should pay research and development, too. It’s for their benefit ... so for the first time in many years, we'll slash the cost of prescription drugs, and we will bring fairness to America,” he said, adding that his plan would cause prices to drop by as much as 80 percent for medications.
Internet erupts over Trump's story
Social media has several takeaways from this quaint story that Trump said, and one of them was that Ozempic has got a new generic name: fat shot drug . Other takeaways included that probably Trump was describing himself and admitting that he takes Ozempic.
"From now on, I will refer to Ozempic exclusively as the fat shot drug," one user said as others saw it a shout-out for Ozempic.
