Ranchi, May 2, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds for most parts of Jharkhand until May 4, warning residents to stay cautious during this period of weather instability.
Thunderstorms Expected Across Most Districts on May 3According to the latest bulletin, the IMD has predicted thunderstorm activity on May 3, accompanied by gusty winds blowing at 40–50 km/h, in all districts of the state except Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra, Latehar, Koderma, and Lohardaga. The advisory highlights the risk of lightning strikes and sudden weather changes, urging the public to avoid open areas during storm conditions.
Rainfall Cools Temperatures, Offers Relief from HeatRanchi and several other districts experienced light to moderate rainfall on Thursday, resulting in a noticeable drop in temperatures and bringing temporary relief from the intense summer heat. The rainfall has created cool and pleasant weather, with residents in some areas reporting a chill in the air.
Ranchi recorded 12.6 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, while Putki in Dhanbad received the highest rainfall in the state at 38.6 mm. Friday saw clear skies over Ranchi and surrounding areas, but the recent precipitation kept conditions pleasant and humid.
Nor’wester Phenomenon Behind Sudden Weather ShiftThe sudden change in weather is attributed to the Kal Baisakhi (Nor’wester), a seasonal weather phenomenon common during pre-monsoon months in eastern India. Known for bringing intense storms and short spells of rain, Kal Baisakhi has helped ease soaring temperatures across Jharkhand, offering much-needed respite from the heatwave that gripped the region over the past few weeks.
Authorities have urged farmers and residents in rural areas to remain alert during the weather event and avoid risky outdoor activities, particularly during periods of lightning and strong winds.
